Samana organizes activities and sets up projects that aim to improve the quality of life of chronically ill and informal caregivers. The association has asked Sven to come up with a temporary work of art and to build it at the Antwerp Zoo.
Sven has decided to construct a gigantic cage, the bars of which are made by some of the 70,000 empty medication packages collected by the members. Toy kiwi birds are enclosed by it.
He has come up with this idea to draw attention to the Pharmac, the cost-effective access to medication described by Dirk Van Duppen. This model bears the name kiwi, the bird native to New Zealand, as it was the first country to tender out the right to subsidize medication. But in our country the government has only partially taken over this system and the kiwis therefore stay confined.
